Noni Drew is an asthetic appreciator and colour lover which translates into her bright abstract painting and sculptural works.
Focussing on the emotional response to colour relationality and themes such as memory, the domestic and motherhood, Noni's practice draws on personal observations and mediated images which are deconstructed and layered into abstracted compositions which hint at figures, landscapes, interiors and still lives.
Exploring the boundaries between abstraction and representation, Noni's experiences of travel and engagement with other cultures, particularly her time living in Morocco, heavily influence her work. Combining bold gestural and painterly marks with hard edged shapes, her work is spontaneous and organic in its evolution.
Noni is currently undertaking the Master of Contepomporary Art at Victorian College of The Arts, University of Melbourne. She holds a Graduate Certificate in Visual Art from the Victorian College of the Arts, and has completed short courses in painting, weaving, life drawing, photograpy and screen printing.
Noni lives in Melbourne, Australia with her husband and two young children.
