Noni Drew is an aesthetic appreciator and colour lover which translates into her vibrant abstract paintings and sculptural works.
Focussing on the emotional response to colour and themes such as memory, the domestic and motherhood, Noni's practice draws on personal observations and mediated images which are deconstructed and layered into abstracted compositions which hint at figures, landscapes, interiors and still lives.
Exploring the boundaries between abstraction and representation, experiences of travel and engagement with other cultures, particularly her time living in Morocco, heavily influence her work. Combining bold gestural and painterly marks with hard edged shapes, her work is spontaneous and organic in its evolution.
Noni holds a Master of Contemporary Art (First Class Honours) from Victorian College of The Arts, University of Melbourne.
Noni's work is held in the University of Melbourne's George Paton Gallery collection, the University of Melbourne Southbank Student Union collection and numerous private collections in Australia and internationally.
